It is always interesting to see what players do after retiring from the game. There are quite a few who make the move into management. We have seen quite a few Celtic legends do that to mixed success. Scott Brown is a terrific example of this. But now everybody ends up becoming a coach. They take a different route.
There are those who enjoy the behind-the-scenes roles in the game more than dealing with the pressure of being in the dugout week in and week out. And it looks like one Celtic hero is wanted in such a move.
As reported by The Celtic Way, Mikael Lustig has been linked with a role at Swedish side Vasteras SK (VSK). It is that of the club's new sporting director.
Lustig played several years for Celtic but spent the last phase of his career elsewhere. Now, it looks like he can become the sporting director of a club back in Sweden. We can only wish him the best of luck if he does end up getting the role.

Sporting directors have emerged as important figures in the modern day structures of football clubs. Celtic have started to adapt to these changes as well, although slower than others.
It is worth mentioning that they seem to be seeking a head coach this time around, after Brendan Rodgers decided to quit in the middle of the season, and not a manager. And it should not come as a surprise that Celtic's director of football, Paul Tisdale, is playing a central role in this search.
Wilfried Nancy is close to getting the job. One has to wonder if this is the start of a very different era in the history of Celtic football club, when these behind-the-scenes roles grow in prominence, whether for good or bad.
