Celtic fans will love what Kelechi Iheanacho has dropped on social media amid uncertainty over his future this summer. Iheanacho joined the Bhoys on a short-term deal last season and went on to play an important role in the double win.

The free signing scored five league goals and netted three more in the cup, but his contract may expire this summer. Celtic have the option to extend the deal by a year, but it is so far unclear whether they will do so, and whether the striker wants to stay.

But if Iheanacho's latest social media post is anything to go by, he does indeed want to stick around.

Iheanacho drops Celtic stay hint

In what may be a display of his desire to stick around at Parkhead, Iheanacho posted a photo of Celtic's Scottish Cup celebrations to his Instragram story on Monday night, along with the caption "my team".

That appears to be a man who would like to stick around for next season. It would be no surprise if the 29-year-old did want to stay. He joined Celtic on the back of a frustrating and forgettable spell at Sevilla, and things have been much more comfortable for him in Scotland.

Iheanacho has played regularly and found form under Martin O'Neill, who would be his manager next season if he sticks around.

O'Neill may be keen

Ultimately, though, the decision lies with O'Neill and Celtic, and there is little doubt that there is a financial component to the decision.

What we do know is that O'Neill is a fan of Iheanacho's, and Celtic do need strikers, given the departure of Iheanacho would leave just one senior striker on their books.

Towards the back-end of the season, O'Neill said of Iheanacho and his future: "He was terrific, absolutely terrific. He’s been doing that for the last few weeks. He’s continued that form."

"Right now, his fitness is the most important thing, and he has to keep proving that he’s fit on the field. What he’s done for us has been terrific, especially recently. The club will weigh up his overall contribution against his injuries over the whole season."

O'Neill is likely to sign at least one or two more strikers this summer, and the loss of Iheanacho may add another requirement to the list, but the striker has dealt with some injuries, and he may have to prove his fitness before winning a new deal.
