Celtic striker Kasper Hogh seems to be immune to crtiicism, and there is no clear reason why.
It could be how he made fun of himself after his debut, his subsequent hat-trick or his feel-good demeanour that understandably makes him popular with fans, but at some point, bias must be put aside.
Hogh arrived on a big-money deal worth £11million that could rise above Celtic's record transfer fee if certain add-ons are met, and that fee may have bought the striker a little more rope.
The hat-trick also helped, but the Dane hasn't scored since, and he has certainly had chances. Now, what we have heard a lot of, is that Hogh is offering sufficient production elsewhere that makes up for his goals.
Fair point. Hogh has, at times, held the ball up really well and brought wingers and Benjamin Nygren into play nicely. But since returning from injury on Wednesday night, he hasn't offered any of that, either.
The Rangers game was his worst in a Celtic shirt. Instead of sticking to him, everything played Hogh's way bounced off him. He was outmuscled and simply not in the game at a time when the Hoops were desperate for someone to hold the ball and take the sting out of Rangers' ever-building momentum.
But even when he has a stinker, the finger is always pointed elsewhere, starting with Sebastian Tounekti, who admittedly was very poor. We see the odd comment of 'Hogh needs to be better at this or that', but when is someone going to point out when he puts on an awful performance?
Even Martin O'Neill, who failed to get a grip of the game, spotted it and dragged Hogh off in the second half, something he has rarely done.
Many felt Camilo Duran, who has been far more productive in his natural central role, should have started through the middle against Rangers, and that certainly needs to be trialled more, although it's not clear that would have worked on Sunday, with Duran also having his worst game for Celtic.
But can we stop pretending that Hogh can't do any wrong?
He is a good player, no doubt, and he has shown what he can offer. But he has to do it more consistently, or he at least needs to put chances away. Give us production or give us goals, ideally both. But if it is not at least one or the other, he shouldn't be playing, big fee and nice guy or not.
