Celtic are now being linked with a Manchester United midfielder as they look to strengthen their midfield options this summer. The Bhoys lost Arne Engels to West Ham on a £22million deal recently, leaving them short in the midfield. particularly for the Champions League qualifying play-off.
The Bhoys are also without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the two legs with LASK due to suspension, leaving Martin O'Neill with only one holding midfielder in Callum Mcgregor. and it's no secret that the area needs to be addressed to ensure Celtic are not caught short over the course of the season.
Canadian international Niko Sigur appears to be the prime target, but given that could mean the Bhoys are not going to invest big in a midfielder, with the Hajduk Split star likely to cost only around £3million, they could add a third midfielder to ensure they have enough depth.
Manchester United's 21-year-old midfielder Gore is now being linked, with OnTheMinute claiming the Bhoys have expressed an interest. Southampton, Swansea City and Sheffield United are also said to be interested.
But it is not clear whether United are looking for another loan for Gore or a permanent sale this summer. Gore spent last season on loan at Rotherham United, where played in 38 of the Millers' 46 league games.
Celtic would offer a step up for Gore, but it's clear he is ready to test himself at a higher level than that of League One, having stood out in a struggling team last season.
Gore praised during Rotherham spell
Rotherham were relegated from League One, but Gore was regularly praised as one of their standout players. Millers boss Matt Hamshaw said: "I really like Dan. I like his attitude, I like his commitment, I like his tenacity, I like his work ethic, I like everything he represents.”
In their full squad season review, the Rotherham Advertiser said of Gore: “If he had a bad game, I can’t remember it. Had the drive to match his skill. Gave no quarter and asked no quarter all season.”
