In recent years, Celtic have had a few Irish strikers. Adam Idah was signed from Norwich City with hopes that he would eventually develop into their first-choice number 9. Unfortunately, he was not able to meet expectations and left for Swansea City on deadline day of the 2025 summer transfer window.
While Idah might have left, Celtic have maintained that Irish connection up top. Johnny Kenny has been a revelation under the management of Martin O'Neill and one can only wonder why he did not get more chances when Brendan Rodgers was the club's manager.
Now, it looks like another Irish striker has caught the eye of Celtic. But in his case, it is hard to imagine that he would come in and immediately make an impact on the first-team.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Celtic have been keeping a close eye on the talent at the ongoing U17 FIFA World Cup. Graeme Baily has told the outlet that Michael Noonan has ‘caught the eye’ of Celtic’s scouts.
Celtic interested in signing another Irish striker
Noonan is only 17 years of age. So, it would be unfair to expect someone of his experience to come in and make an immediate impact at a team like Celtic. That being said, the long-term potential is clear for all to see.
Noonan has already scored 9 goals at the senior level for Shamrock Rovers. Also, he has represented Ireland at a variety of youth international levels already and he has a very good record of finding the back of the net there.
So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be keeping a close eye on someone who is clearly a top talent coming through Irish football right now. Let's see if they end up making a push to sign him.
