At the moment, Celtic already have an Irish centre-back who is a key part of their starting lineup. Of course, we are talking about none other than Liam Scales. Signed from Shamrock Rovers and largely viewed as a left-back early on, he has made most of his contributions in the heart of defence for the Hoops. And to be honest, he has not always gotten the credit that he deserves.

That seems to be changing lately though. A lot more people are giving Scales credit for being one of Celtic's best performers this season. Hopefully, it will continue in this manner.

He has been an integral part of his national team as well as they are still in contention to make the World Cup. And it looks like Celtic have their eyes on another Irish centre-back, although he would not be part of the first-team picture in a while even if he was signed.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Celtic have been keeping a close eye on the talent at the ongoing U17 FIFA World Cup. Vinnie Leonard is one of the players that has caught the eye of the club's scouts.

Leonard currently plays at Dundalk FC. He is 17 years of age, but has a lot more experience than you would expect from someone in his bracket.

Leonard has already made 40 appearances for Dundalk and scored 3 goals for the club as well. It is not long before he will be making a step up in level and it looks like Celtic could prove to be an option for the youngster.

Of course, it is hard to imagine that he would come in and immediately be a part of the first-team picture. Then again, neither was Scales. He has developed into a regular though, and a lot of credit goes to his loan spell at Aberdeen. Perhaps Leonard can follow a similar path.
