Celtic have already made a couple of moves this summer and are believed to be working on multiple other deals at the same time. That being said, there are numerous positions across the pitch where the Hoops might be looking to strengthen before this transfer window closes. One of them is their midfield.
Oftentimes, Celtic have struggled to control games in the middle of the park in big games, whether it be derbies or Champions League matchups. That has made it difficult for them to go on and win matches of that magnitude.
So, Celtic are believed to be looking to add some steel to their midfield. One player they have been linked with is Andy Irving of West Ham United. Interestingly, it looks like there is some substance to the rumour and the possibility that a move could materilise.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Celtic do hold an interest in Irving, according to Graeme Bailey. Also, West Ham sources have confirmed that the midfielder isn’t in Graham Potter’s plans and could be allowed to leave.
Celtic interest in signing Premier League player confirmed
Irving has never been a central figure for West Ham United. When not on loan, the midfielder has struggled to get into the Hammers. Last season, he made less than a dozen appearances for the club.
So, it might be the best step for both parties to part ways at this point in time. And joining Celtic at this point in his career could be a great move for someone like Irving.
Of course, it will be interesting to see what kind of a transfer fee West Ham would demand to part ways with Irving in the summer. If it is within Celtic's reach, do not be surprised to see the Scottish champions make their move.
