Every summer, we see important players leave Celtic. This time around, the likes of Nicolas Kuhn, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate are all being linked with moves away from Glasgow. The Hoops have to make sure that they keep hold of as many of them as possible.
Last summer, it was the same thing. That time, Matt O'Riley was the one who left the club in a €29 million move to join Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
Brighton have a solid record of developing players. So, on paper, it felt like a good move. But O'Riley was injured early on in the campaign and that ended up derailing his debut season with the Seagulls to a large extent.
It was only towards the end of the season that he got into the starting XI mix at Brighton. So, it looked like things were moving in the right direction. But now, it appears that O'Riley could potentially end up leaving this summer.
Celtic hero tipped to join AS Roma out of nowhere
As reported by Il Messaggero (via The Celtic Way), Gian Piero Gasperini, the new AS Roma manager, could move for O'Riley this summer. They view him as a classic number eight.
It remains to be seen if AS Roma do end up making a move for O'Riley this summer or not. It is worth mentioning that Gasperini's interest in the midfielder is nothing new. When he was the manager of Atalanta, the Italian club had made multiple bids to sign the Dane before he ended up at Brighton.
Could it be second time lucky for Gasperini? We will find out soon. But despite all this speculation, it would come as a surprise if Brighton end up parting with O'Riley just a year after signing him.
