A lot of players go on to establish themselves as heroes for Celtic during their playing careers. Once those days are over, there are quite a few who decide to put away the boots and put on a suit instead, in order to try their hand at managing. There are a few who end up succeeding and more than that who do not.
For example, Scott Brown has shown signs that he can develop into a top manager one day. On the other hand, Charlie Mulgrew's start to life in management has not been a positive one.
Mulgrew had joined Kelty Hearts in January of this year. But after less than four months and having managed just eleven games, that run has come to an end. It will not have come as a surprise to those keeping an eye out on the club though, as they only won once over that time.
As Kelty Hearts announced on their social media, Mulgrew tendered his resignation from the post, which has been accepted by the club Board. His Assistant Manager, Mark Kerr, will leave by mutual agreement.
Celtic hero's exit confirmed with official announcement
Mulgrew came through the youth ranks at Celtic but was not able to establish himself in the senior team from the get-go. Instead, he ended up leaving the club early on in his career.
He would end up returning though, after having established himself at the senior level. Then, he went on to have a great run at Parkhead, which saw him win seven trophies in total, including five league titles. As a result, he will always be remembered as a club hero.
Of course, the start to his managerial career has not been a good one. But neither was the one to his playing one. Mulgrew stuck with it though and proved people wrong. Hopefully he will do that once again.
