Celtic are in a strong position in the Premiership title race, but it’s not over until it is mathematically finished. After a home win in midweek against Aberdeen, there are still 10 games to go in the chase for the league. So, there is still plenty to play for in those remaining games even though the Hoops are in complete control right now.
Then there is the matter of the Scottish Cup. Brendan Rodgers and his players will be keen to ensure they get to the final and retain the trophy. It would mean another treble for Celtic, which would delight the fans and add more history.
One of Rodgers’ squad could soon be ready to remind us again of his terrific form from last season when he helped power the team to a league and cup double. James Forrest picked up an injury in December’s League Cup win at Hampden Parkhead over the Rangers, the first step in the potential treble.
Forrest is believed to be edging closer to a return. Brendan Rodgers talked of the player now being back in training and only being a couple of weeks away.
Celtic hero closing in on return in major boost
The return won’t be happening against St.Mirren this weekend but it’s encouraging news that we should soon see him being named in squads again. Having Forrest available will increase the options for Rodgers, although with Hyun-jun Yang having stepped up in form recently, there will be competition for a place and time on the pitch. And that's after the likes of Jota, Daizen Maeda, and Nicolas Kuhn
Last season the title race was a little closer at this point in the season and Forrest was also emerging from an injury period. He stormed back into the team with goals, assists and some terrific performances back then. The veteran helped push the team forward and was a key part of the Hoops securing the double.
Celtic are scoring goals at a good rate. But the drive, cutting edge, and experience of Forrest could again be invaluable in closing out this season successfully. Let's hope we see his name again on the team sheets soon.
