Ange Postecoglou made the decision to leave Celtic last year to join Tottenham Hotspur. Unsurprisingly, the supporters were not happy. The Hoops were seeing a brilliant manager and an absolute fan favourite leave. On the other hand, the Premier League club's fans were unimpressed with the level of appointment they had made after seeing the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte struggle.

It did not take Postecoglou long to make his mark in the Premier League though. They were looking like Premier League contenders early on in the season.

But, a series of injuries to key players ended up derailing their momentum. And they have never really rediscovered that early form they showed under the management of Postecoglou again.

The former Celtic manager needs to show progress if he is to remain at Tottenham Hotspur though. For them, it means either winning a trophy to end the long dry spell or secure qualification to the Champions League, or at the very minimum, the Europa League.

As reported by Football Insider, Paul Robinson said about Postecoglou:

"At the end of the season, yes, he’s bang under pressure if they don’t achieve what they want to achieve, but at the moment, he’s okay.

“In February, if they drop out of the cup competitions and it doesn’t look like they’ll compete for European places, he could lose his job before the end of the season."

To be honest, it would come as no surprise if Postecoglou is eventually shown the exit door by Tottenham Hotspur. He is a fantastic manager without a doubt, who has achieved success everywhere. But nobody has really been able to succeed there in a long time. They have won only one trophy in this century.

Could Postecoglou potentially make a return to Celtic one day? As Brendan Rodgers has shown, never say never. Perhaps things could work out sometime in the future. But for now, the Hoops are in a great spot with the Northern Irishman in charge. They are succeeding in domestic competitions and have shown progress in the Champions League after a long time.
