Ange Postecoglou enjoyed nothing but success while at Celtic. After winning five trophies in two seasons, including a treble, the Australia decided to leave the club and make the move to the Premier League to join Tottenham Hotspur. Of course, fans were not happy but there was an understanding about why the manager had made the decision.
About 18 months on and things are not looking rosy for Postecoglou. His Tottenham Hotspur side find themselves sitting at 15th in the Premier League table.
Of course, they are dealing with a lot of injuries as well. That is one of the key reasons why Tottenham Hotspur have been patient with Postecoglou so far. But if things do not improve quickly then they might have no choice but to show him the exit door, as they have done to far more high-profile names in the past, like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Postecoglou might not have long to turn things around either. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Mark Bosnich told Sky Sports News:
"I believe, come the first week of February, the second leg of the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool, followed by the Aston Villa tie in the FA Cup, will decide his fate. I can understand exactly what they said about injuries and so forth. A lot of those injuries are muscular injuries, as far as I am concerned, people should start doing a little bit of investigating work, in terms of what are they doing in training. A lot of them look shot to pieces. It’s a high-energy game that he plays. That’s all well and good when you are playing well. But, when you are playing every three days, things aren’t going well, and people are suspended or injured. We have said it a million times, you need alternative ways of playing. They have a chance of redemption. That first week of February will decide his fate."
Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou offered bad news about sacking
Of course, Postecoglou has won silverware pretty much everywhere he has been. And the League Cup provides him a great chance to do that with Tottenham Hotspur has well, with Spurs not winning a trophy since 2008.
That being said, one has to think that Postecoglou will not get too many more chances to get his team back on track. Tottenham Hotspur cannot be caught up in a relegation struggle. And right now, sitting at 15th after more than half the season has been played, that is very much a genuine possibility.
Let's see how things play out for Postecoglou over the coming weeks. His Tottenham Hotspur future is certainly up in the air right now and a sacking is a very real possibility.
