Celtic have been handed a major boost, with Jota now back in training after a lengthy injury layoff. The record Bhoys signing has been out since April of 2025 after he suffered an ACL rupture that involved damage aplenty.

Players typically get back to action in around nine months from a standard ACL tear, but Jota has been out for well over a year, and he still isn't back in full action.

Jota returns to Celtic training

After 16 months absent, Jota has been pictured in training with the first team in what will be a major boost for him and the club. It was initially expected the winger would be out for between six to nine months, but there have been complications aplenty.

The Portuguese star will now be hoping to integrate into regular training and avoid any further setbacks. Jota is not likely to return in the immediate future, but his return suggests he could be back in a few weeks or so.

That would be a major boost for Martin O'Neill, who is likely to strengthen out wide with the signing of Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo. Celtic may have felt they needed two wingers this summer, but Hassam might just do it if they can get Jota back.

O'Neill was not present to see Jota return to training as he continues his recovery from a health scare during the week, but he will be delighted to hear he might get the winger back sooner rather than later.
