Celtic have been given a potential fitness boost in the form of Joel van den Berg, as the midfielder looks to finally make his Bhoys entrance.

The midfielder arrived on a late summer deal from PSV Eindhoven and is yet to make an appearance due to a combination of selection decisions and injury. For the last month, Van den Berg has not been available due to an ankle injury he picked up in training.

There has been very little news on his return other than Martin O'Neill suggesting the midfielder is not far away a couple of weeks ago. But Van den Berg has now been spotted in Celtic training ahead of Wednesday night's Premiership clash with Dundee United, with club photographers snapping pictures for the club's social media.

It seems unlikely Van den Berg will be available for the Dundee United clash, given he is only now returning to training, but it is a positive sign to see him in training.

Celtic lack options in the midfield, but there are still no suggestions that Van den Berg has the ability to be a starter. But he may be able to offer something, especially with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain seeing little football, while Oliver Sorensen has struggled to impress so far.

There may be an opportunity there for Van den Berg, but he needs to get up to speed with full fitnes

Amid a busy schedule, O'Neill could be forced into a fair few changes for this weekend's clash with Falkirk. Celtic face Besiktas in a must-win Europa League clash next week, and by this weekend, they will have played seven games in just three weeks.

If Van den Berg can get back to fitness, he may get an opportunity this weekend with that in mind. Benjamin Nygren has played a lot of football this season, but the Bhoys have struggled to get any sort of reliable relief in that position.
