Celtic need to sign a winger. That would not come as a surprise to absolutely nobody. They have seen Nicolas Kuhn and Luis Palma depart Parkhead this summer while it has been known for quite a while not that Jota will not return to action from his injury before the end of this year. The exact length of his absence is not even known yet.

So, under these circumstances, it is surprising that Celtic have not gone out and signed a winger already. That should have been at the very top of their wishlist.

But as we all know, the club often end up letting things drag on for too long. One can only hope that they can ultimately get the job done before the summer transfer window closes. They have been linked with quite a few wingers lately and one of the most interesting names on that list is that of Calvin Stengs.

Stengs has represented the Netherlands on 8 occasions and at 26 years of age, he is entering his prime. He is also capable of playing not only on the right flank but also in the number 10 role. Yes, there are some question marks over his injury history but all things considered, this is the level of talent and quality that Celtic need to be aiming for.

As reported by VoetbalZone, Stengs appears to be out of contention at Feyenoord under the management of Robin van Persie. He didn't play a single minute in their first four official matches this season. A departure is not unthinkable.

Stengs is a phenomenal player when he is fit and available. He has a proven record of success at clubs like Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar and Royal Antwerp. He has scored thrice in his eight appearances for the Netherlands national team as well.

Since late 2023, Stengs has dealt with six different injury problems. Two of those were serious, seeing him miss close to three months each. So, that is something that Celtic will need to take into consideration before making any move for the Dutchman this summer.
