Celtic have not made any major moves in the ongoing winter transfer window despite being linked with plenty of high-profile names. One can only hope that that changes over the coming days. Brendan Rodgers' side could certainly do with a few fresh faces, perhaps even a familiar one, as they struggle to rediscover their early season form.

Kieran Tierney is the familiar face in question. The Scottish left-back has been heavily linked with a return to Celtic after it emerged that Arsenal had passed on the chance to extend his contract by another twelve months.

That means that Tierney is set to become a free agent in the summer. The chance to sign a player of his quality without having to spent anything on a transfer fee, does not come around often. Could the move take place in January itself though?

As reported by The Athletic, the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back could open up an opportunity for one of Tierney, Oleksandr Zinchenko or Jakub Kiwior to leave Arsenal in this window. The Scot seems most likely, if he can agree a pre-contract deal with Celtic.

Tierney was a key player for Arsenal early on in his time in London. But over the years, injuries have meant that he has slipped down the pecking order. Right now, he is clearly not an important part of Mikel Arteta's plans.

Many fans have always expected Tierney to eventually return to Celtic. But not many coud have foreseen that happening at this point in his career. On paper, he is only entering his prime.

Yet, considering the number of injuries he has dealt with, one has to wonder how much longer Tierney will continue playing. As a result, this might be the perfect oppportunity for that Celtic return.
