The managerial situation around Celtic has been uncertain since Brendan Rodgers handed in his resignation a few weeks back, after maintaining for years that he wanted to at least see out his contract this time around. The situation might not have been sustainable though, as we saw from Dermot Desmond's statement in the aftermath of his exit. So, it might have been for the best and we wish him the best.

Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney have been put in interim charge since then. To be fair to them, they have done pretty well, when you consider the circumstances in which they had arrived.

They have won all three of their domestic games, including a Hampden Park semi-final against the Rangers. And while they did lost at the hands of FC Midtjylland, one cannot forget that the Danish side sit atop the Europa League table right now.

So, many would like to see O'Neill remain in charge of the team and not break the momentum that has been built up. That is a big reason why a lot of fans were not entirely pleased with the speculation that Wilfried Nancy's appointment as Celtic manager was close. As it turns out, that might have been wide of the mark.

The club have confirmed on the official website that O’Neill and Maloney will continue to manage first-team matters on an interim basis. The process to appoint the next permanent manager is still ongoing.

At least this update does give some clarity on the situation. On the back of this, it is very likely that O'Neill will be the man in charge when the Hoops return to action after the international break.

Of course, one has to wonder why the Nancy appointment has not been made during the international break. That might have been a good chance to integrate him.
