It looks like a lot of Rangers fans are pining all their hopes on the club's impending takeover to fix all the problems they have faced in recent times. Of course, Celtic have been the top team in Scotland for years now and except for the 20/21 campaign, with no fans in attendance, the Ibrox club have never been able to get the better of their Glasgow rivals.
They are hoping that the takeover will significantly bolster the club's financial situation. Of course, it is worth pointing out that they have been posting losses pretty much every year as things stand. So, how significant a boost would be remains in doubt.
A change in the dugout is expected as well. Barry Ferguson has done a decent job as interim manager, all things considered. But one would not imagine that they would back him to overtake Celtic in the long run.
As reported by TEAMtalk. Rangers’ future owners, the San Francisco 49ers, want to make a strong managerial appointment. Steven Gerrard is liked by the club's board and could be approached over an Ibrox return. He remains the big favourite to become the next permanent manager.
Celtic: Favourite to be next Rangers manager after 49ers takeover named
Of course, it was Gerrard, who was the Rangers' manager when they managed to win the league title in that aforementioned 20/21 season. It is worth mentioning, though, that that was the only trophy he won in over three seasons at Ibrox. That is something that a lot of their fans appear to overlook.
That is not an update that will scare Celtic fans though. In fact, if anything, a lot of them would want to see Gerrard make a return to Ibrox.
It remains to be seen how the Rangers situation unfolds. If the rumours are accurate then the takeover should go through by the end of May.
