It has been a great few months for Celtic. Of course, the result against Borussia Dortmund was a low point but other than that, the Hoops could not have asked for much more. They are leading the Premiership title race, alongside Aberdeen, while the Rangers have fallen nine points behind. On the other hand, Brendan Rodgers' side have also booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final.
Domestic success has been a norm for Celtic over the years. Their performances in Europe have come as a surprise to many though. After four games, they have seven points, with wins coming against Slovan Bratislava and RB Leipzig as well as an away draw in Bergamo vs Atalanta.
There has been good news off the pitch as well. Yesterday, Alistair Johnston's contract extension was announced. And now, another player has put pen to paper on a new deal.
As reported by the club's official website, Celtic have agreed a year-long contract extension with James Forrest. It will run until the summer of 2026.
Celtic make fantastic early morning announcement
Forrest might no longer be a regular starter for Celtic but he is still a key part of this team, who has been getting consistent minutes off the bench. Also, one cannot overlook the importance of having someone of his experience in the dressing room.
Forrest came through the youth ranks at Celtic, making his debut in 2010. Since then, he has made over 500 appearances for the club.
Over that period of time, he has become the second most decorated Celtic player in history, winning 24 trophies. And there is every chance that he will sit atop that list one day.
It is certainly the right decision to hand Forrest a new deal. He has earned it over the years. There are not many one club players left in football. Hopefully, we get to see him retire in a Celtic jersey one day.
