There is already an inevitability around Wilfried Nancy. The same kind that surrounded Russell Martin for weeks before he was eventually shown the exit door by the Rangers. Many feel that it is only a matter of time before the French manager is shown the Parkhead exit door. He looks completely out of his depth and might not have understood the magnitude of the task he was taking on. He looks nowhere near ready.

I always had my doubts regarding the timing of the Nancy appointment and mentioned it on multiple occasions leading up to it. It was an unnecessary risk on the part of the club, so soon before the Scottish League Cup final.

Well, they chose to take that risk and have paid the price for it. All of Martin O'Neill's good work over his interim spell, winning seven out of eight games, has been undone in a matter of days during this Nancy era, if you can call it that.

Of course, it is expected that the Celtic board will give him every chance possible to succeed and prove the appointment was the right one. But when it is bound to fail, it eventually will. This feels like one such occasion.

There had been rumours that there was no need for Celtic to rush into the appointment and that O'Neill was willing to continue in the job. Now that has been confirmed by the man himself.

As reported by BBC Sport, O'Neill said while speaking on talkSPORT when asked if he had wanted to lead Celtic out at Hampden.:

"Only if asked.

"That was not a driving force. I'd happily have stayed on.

"If they had asked me to stay on, I would've done so, but the minute that they said, 'no, that's your time', that's fine by me."

It is safe to say that a large section of the fanbase won't be happy with that piece of information. It looks like the board have made another major error.
