With the onus on them to win, the Rangers crumbled this weekend once again. That has been the case far too often for the Ibrox club and under different managers. The 1-0 defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock leaves them six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen, as the top two played out a 2-2 draw at Parkhead on this matchday.

It is starting to feel like Philippe Clement's Rangers exit is now inevitable. Following a Scottish League Cup win early into his run at Ibrox, the Belgian has never really impressed.

Yes, he overturned a significant Celtic lead last season but then lost it back to the Hoops soon afterwards. And considering how Aberdeen are playing at the start of the 24/25 campaign, the Rangers might be the third-best team in Scotland at the moment.

That has all led to speculation about who could potentially replace Clement as the Rangers manager in the near future. Unsurprisingly, a lot of their fans would love for Steven Gerrard to be brought back.

Celtic fans would love that as well. The thing is, Gerrard might have won Rangers the Premiership, but that was his only success in over three years at Ibrox and came when no supporters were present in the stadiums while the Hoops endured their worst campaign in recent memory.

Many Celtic fans would love to see if Gerrard can get it done in Scotland under normal circumstances. He continues have this image of being a fantastic manager to some.

His stints since leaving the Rangers, and even the one at Ibrox, would suggest otherwise. Gerrard struggled at Aston Villa while Unai Emery has transformed them into a Champions League team after replacing the Liverpool legend. His current Al-Ettifaq side are winless in their last four league games.
