The mood amongst the Celtic fans has been lifted a bit in recent days with the win over Kilmarnock, thanks to a late penalty converted by Kelechi Iheanacho, and the Rangers' continued struggles as they lost 2-0 to Hearts. The pair of results mean that there is a nine-point gap between the two Glasgow giants after just five league matchdays.
That being said, Celtic fans remain far from happy. They still want changes to be made to the football model of the club after the lack of ambition and efficiency that has been showcased over the years.
If there were any doubts about that, the fans' reaction to the club's latest announcement this morning should clear them up. And to be honest, it should have been expected.
Celtic made an announcement this morning that Season Ticket holders have until 5 pm today to secure their seat at Parkhead for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League. And it was met with sarcasm and jokes.
Celtic fans unhappy with the club's morning announcement
Of course, Celtic failed to sign a striker on deadline day, despite sanctioning Adam Idah's departure, and ended up bringing in Iheanacho as a free agent afterwards. That seems to be the kind of deal that the supporters are seeking on this Europa League package as well. One wrote: "Dont worry it will always be possible to pick tickets up after the deadline just like we have done with players."
Another added: "Can we get the package on a free if we miss the deadline?"
A third fan added: "Presumably I can pick up a free seat after the deadline closes?"
Well, that just goes to show the lack of excitement around the Europa League campaign and understandably so. Celtic should be playing Champions League football.
But for one reason or another, the club did not strengthen their squad in time for the qualifiers, in a decision that made little sense. And it did not come as a surprise to anybody when they ended up paying the price for it.
