As we approach the January transfer window, one name which is expected to constantly do the rounds of the rumour mill is Kieran Tierney. The Scottish left-back looks all set to leave Arsenal, as he no longer has a place in Mikel Arteta's team. And unsurprisingly, a return to Celtic has been touted for a while.
Tierney came through the youth ranks at Celtic and became a starter for the club. That is something that nobody has been able to do since him.
He would leave the club in 2019 to join Arsenal in a then Scottish record move. Initially, he was fantastic for Arsenal and was even viewed as a future captain of the club by a large section of their supporters. But soon the injury problems would start to mount up for the left-back while other left-backs arrived and were placed ahead of him in the pecking order immediately.
Right now, Tierney no longer seems to have a future at Arsenal. He spent the previous campaign out on loan at Real Sociedad. And the left-back was expected to leave in the summer once again but an injury picked up at the EUROs derailed those plans.
Celtic fans won't like Scott Brown's Kieran Tierney return claim
It looks like former Celtic captain, Scott Brown, wants to see Tierney focus on Arsenal and getting back into that team. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:
"He is at Arsenal now and he obviously wants to go back and play games. It's up to him what he does and where he goes. If he was ever to come back, it would be unbelievable. But for me, I think he's got to focus on Arsenal and get back into that team.
"They're a fantastic team as well. You never know, he could go and win the Premier League with them. When he first got into the team, they loved him. He's still only 27. I'd like to see him do something like win the Premier League."
The issue is, it is almost impossible for Tierney to get back into that Arsenal team these days. There are far too many options ahead of him.
Leaving Arsenal might be the best choice for him. Now, whether he wants to make a return to Celtic or not is a decision completely up to him. On the other hand, what kind of investment should the Hoops make on a player with his injury record?
