Philippe Clement is still the Rangers manager despite seeing his side lose to Championship team, Queen's Park, in the Scottish Cup. In the Premiership, they are significantly behind Celtic, who have already won the League Cup. So, all things considered, this looks set to be another trophyless campaign for the Ibrox club.

In the past, the Rangers have sacked managers despite being in a better position than this. Clement has already made it clear that he does not plan to resign.

It is also worth pointing out that the Rangers handed Clement a long-term extension earlier this season. That decision is looking like a mistake already and one has to wonder whether it is the reason they are yet to say goodbye to the Belgian manager.

Steven Gerrard has been placed as the favourite by bookmakers to be the next Rangers manager, if they did end up sacking Clement. And it looks like it is something that Celtic fans would not mind either.

One Celtic fan wrote about a potential Gerrard return to Ibrox: "You do realise the guy who manages Queen’s Park is also the same guy who won more trophies than Gerrard but yes bring him back."

Another wrote: "Their support are going to go into overdrive to bring Gerrard back. 1 trophy out of 9 is the standard they’re happy with."

It remains to be seen if the Rangers do eventually decide to sack Clement. There does seem to be a feeling of inevitability around it. But at the same time, considering he was not shown the door after the Queen's Park result, one has to think that he will get at least until the end of the season to bring things back on track.

The issue for the Rangers is that they have plenty of financial issues already. They cannot simply afford to bring in and sack managers every season, which they have done the past few times.

As for Celtic, this is all good news. They are marching on towards another league title and have a blockbuster Champions League tie against Bayern Munich coming up.
