It is safe to say that Celtic and the Rangers are having very different seasons. While the Hoops are aiming to win the treble, the Ibrox club would be happy to just steady the ship until the end of the cammpaign. Their managerial appointment after the sacking of Philippe Clement at the weekend is pretty much proof of that.

Following their 2-0 defeat at home against St Mirren, the Rangers decided that the time had come to show Clement the exit door. But it is pretty clear that they did not have a long-term replacement in mind for the time being.

The Ibrox club have announced the appointment of Barry Ferguson as their head coach until the end of the season. He will be joined by coaches Issame Charai, Neil McCann, Billy Dodds and Allan McGregor.

The expectations are not high for the Rangers at the moment. It feels very similar to when John Kennedy was handed the Celtic job until the end of the 20/21 campaign after Neil Lennon left.

It is safe to say that a lot of Celtic fans were amused by the appointment of Ferguson. The former Rangers captain does not have top level experience in management, that is for sure.

Ferguson had a spell as caretaker of Blackpool down in England. And since then, he has managed in the lower divisions of Scotland with clubs like Clyde and Kelty Hearts.

So, it is safe to say that it is not a move that will scare any Celtic fans about the future. It remains to be seen who the Rangers are keeping an eye on as their long-term replacement in the hot seat though. Steven Gerrard looks like the favourite at the moment and is without a job. So why was not he appointed?
