After seeing their side finish trophyless for another season, it would be safe to say that Rangers fans are hoping to see a high-profile manager being brought in this summer. Barry Ferguson is currently in interim charge of the club and while he has done a decent job, winning at Celtic Park and getting the better of Jose Mourinho in Europe, not many view him as the long-term solution to the problems at Ibrox.
Very recently, rumours had broken out in the Spanish media that Davide Ancelotti was closing in on the Rangers job. Other reliable outlets confirmed that contact had indeed been made with the Real Madrid assistant manager.
Ancelotti has never managed a team on his own, always working as a coach under his father. But he does have some top-level experience with teams like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton.
As a result, a lot of Rangers fans seemed convinced that Ancelotti was the man to help them compete with Celtic. But unfortunately, he has decided to continue working with his father.
Celtic fans laugh as Rangers handed blow nobody expected
As reported by Onda Cero, Ancelotti will remain alongside his father for at least another year. Just when it seemed the time had come to embark on his solo coaching career, the Brazilian project proved too lucrative, and he will remain in the duo with Carlo until at least the summer of 2026, when the World Cup will be held in the United States and Mexico.
It has also been claimed that one of the major reasons that Ancelotti has come to this decision is because of the lack of "big" opportunities. It is safe to say that Rangers fans won't be happy to hear that.
For Celtic, nothing really changes. In fact, it is very possible that the Ibrox job will be available again in the summer of 2026.
