There are a lot of reasons the Rangers are struggling to catch up with Celtic at the moment. One of them has to be their recruitment. In recent years, the Hoops have brought in players like Kyogo, Jota, Matt O'Riley, Nicolas Kuhn, Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers and several others. How many success stories have been there at Ibrox?
Cyriel Dessers is someone who has his fair share of critics, even amongst the Rangers fans. And some of his recent comments might not go down well with them.
Dessers scored 22 goals in the previous campaign and has 9 this season already. But at the same time, he is someone who has faced plenty of criticism for his finishing.
Dessers does not seem to be bothered by it though. In fact, he decided to point out that he probably would not be at Rangers if he could score three a game. In a video posted by Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, he said:
"I was watching the Champions League this week, and I see unbelievable strikers miss chances. So who am I, as Cyriel Dessers, to not miss chances? Obviously, you’re always gonna miss more than you score. That’s life of a striker. You know that there will always be a perception about that, but that’s life. If I would score three chances every game then I will probably not be at Rangers either."
Celtic fans can only laugh at Cyriel Dessers' Rangers comment
There are a couple of things that need to pointed out about Dessers' comments. Firstly, it is all true. Even the best strikers miss chances. And if he was someone capable of scoring three times a game, he would not be playing for the Rangers. That is just the reality of the situation.
At the same time, it would be safe to say that those comments are not going to go down well with plenty of Rangers fans. That is also reality.
As for Celtic, they can only worry about themselves at this point in time. This has been a great start to the season for them, both in domestic competitions and in Europe. But now, they need to carry on with the momentum and build on it over the campaign.
