Who will be the next Rangers manager? It looks like nobody knows the answer to that question and Celtic fans will be laughing at the entire situation. For a while, it had looked like Steven Gerrard was almost certain to make a return to Ibrox. He was without a job while the club needed someone to who the supporters would back after how things turned out for Russell Martin.
Out of nowhere, Gerrard ended up turning down the job though. Since then, one name after another has been linked with the Rangers, but not too many keen to take it up.
The Graham Potter rumours went nowhere. The Frank Lampard ones have not even picked up any momentum as he sits atop the Championship with his Coventry City side. And now, it looks like another manager, who has been linked to the Ibrox job and is the preferred candidate for many, is not in contention, or at least does not wish to be right now.
That is none other than Derek McInnes. He has been linked with the Rangers on more than one occasion in the past for obvious reasons. And with Hearts sitting atop the Premiership, his stock has never been higher. There is one problem though.
Celtic fans laugh as Rangers handed another manager blow
It looks like McInnes is not interested in the speculation surrounding him and wants to continue at Hearts. As reported by Sky Sports, he said:
"For us, my job here is firmly at Hearts. I'm really enjoying it here. I've wanted to be here for a long time.
"I'm really enjoying my work here. We feel we've started something now and we want to try and make sure we follow up a strong start to the season. Maintain it and see where it takes us. I firmly believe we can be successful here."
Let's see what the future holds for McInnes. But judging from his comments, it looks like that is another manager who the Rangers fans can rule out as a possibility.
As things stand, Celtic fans will be pretty happy with how the Rangers managerial search has turned out. There are still a few names in contention though, mainly Danny Rohl and Kevin Muscat.
