Celtic's winter transfer window cannot be viewed as a success despite the blockbuster return of Jota and the bright start he has made to his second stint at Parkhead. The story would have been a lot more different though if the Hoops had been successful in sealing another return by agreeing a loan deal with Arsenal for Kieran Tierney.
Tierney's return to Celtic is a matter of time. It is believed that he has already agreed a pre-contract with Celtic. His Arsenal contract runs out in the summer and he will be back in Glasgow as a free agent.
There was the opportunity to bring him back even earlier though considering his lack of game time in Mikel Arteta's side. But rumours suggest that Arsenal blocked a Tierney exit this winter.
Of course, that decision is completely down to them. Tierney is an Arsenal player after all. But one would have hoped that that would lead to some game time for him. That there was a clear reason for keeping him.
Celtic fans won't be happy with latest Mikel Arteta decision
Arsenal played Newcastle United in the League Cup semi-final this week and were knocked out of the competition. Tierney was left on the bench as an unused substitute.
That was the case at the weekend as well. Once again Tierney did not come off the bench even though Arsenal won comfortably against Manchester City.
This is something that Celtic fans probably won't be happy about. Tierney is not getting playing time at Arsenal. He would have at Parkhead.
On top of that, Alex Valle left the club after his loan deal was cut short. Ultimately, the Hoops did make an addition there, bringing in Jeffrey Schlupp on deadline day on a temporary basis.
On the other hand, it looks like Greg Taylor's time at Celtic is coming to an end soon. There have been suggestions in the Croatian media that the Scottish left-back is set to join Dinamo Zagreb next summer when his contract at Parkhead is set to run out.
