Celtic are set to say goodbye to Kyogo Furuhashi with the Japanese international on his way to Rennes. That departure is taking longer than expected though. On the other hand, while one club hero leaves another is set to return with Jota ready to head back to Parkhead merely 18 months after leaving.

Jota departed Celtic in the summer of 2023 in a then Scottish-record move to join Al-Ittihad. Since then, he has found out that the grass is not greener on the other side.

Jota's spell at Al-Ittihad was nothing to write home about. Last summer, he joined Rennes but his time in France has not led to much success either and with Jorge Sampaoli arriving as the Ligue 1 club's new manager, he seems to be out of first-team plans.

That did open up a window of opportunity for Celtic to go ahead and bring back Jota. And it looks like they have taken it. There is further good news too, as it looks like the transfer fee is lower than first believed.

As reported by Ouest France, Kyogo's move has been delayed mainly because of Celtic, who wanted to coincide this departure with the announcement of Jota's arrival in Scotland. Rennes will recover a little more than €8 million on the transfer of the Portugues winger.

Initially, it was believed that Celtic were going to pay a €10 million transfer fee to bring back Jota, more than what Rennes had shelled out to sign him in the summer from Al-Ittihad. But now, it looks like the figure is a bit lower.

Ultimately, Jota is a proven success at Celtic. Also, Brendan Rodgers has a good record when it comes to bringing the back out of dynamic wingers, whether it be Nicolas Kuhn or Scott Sinclair in his first spell as the manager of Celtic.
