The Celtic Fans Collective have made progress with the club in their bid to meet with key figures over how things are being run by the club.
Many fans have put their weight behind the Not Another Penny campaign, refraining from investing in club merchandise amid the belief that too much profit is being collected by owner Dermot Desmond and not enough being reinvested.
Celtic have a big commercial profile and have recruited and sold very well over recent years. Even this summer, they sold Arne Engels for £22million and barely reinvested any of that money, making around a £17million profit on transfers vs recruits this summer.
The Bhoys have dominated the Premiership over the years, so on one hand, the model works. Celtic are incredibly successful domestically, but they have gone backwards in Europe, failing to qualify for the Champions League again this summer, and fans are desperate to see some progress on that front.
It's going to take more investment, but the club don't seem willing to commit to it, and while the spending is one thing, the lack of organisation around recruitment is another. It was clear that ineffective recruitment led to Celtic's Champions League exit this summer, and no one has taken responsibility for that.
But after being met by a brick wall for much of the process, the Celtic Fans Collective have now made a breakthrough, with the club agreeing to meet with select individuals to finally open lines of communication with fans.
A Celtic Fans Collective email to members read: “Celtic FC has been aware for a number of months that members of the Celtic Fans Collective have invested significant time in developing proposals for what we believe a successful and meaningful model of fan engagement could look like.
“Following the consultation process, and the feedback submitted by members of the Collective, representatives have now been invited to meet with the Club to present these proposals to John Paul Taylor, Head of Fan Engagement, and George Campbell, Head of Legal and Governance.
“We will also use the meeting to provide further feedback on the existing Celtic Connect proposal, informed by the comments we have received from members.”
