Kyogo is one of the best players in Celtic's recent history. During the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager, many believed the Japanese forward was the best the club had had since Henrik Larsson. His form did take a clear dip following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers although he did remain a starter until his move to Rennes in January.

Kyogo passed on the chance to play Champions League knockout football for Celtic, the only thing he had not achieved in the green-and-white. The desire to play at the next World Cup for Japan was said to be the driving factor behind him joining Rennes in Ligue 1.

Unfortunately, Kyogo's Rennes stint has already proven to be a flop and it would come as a surprise if he does not end up leaving this summer. By the end of the 24/25 campaign, he was not even making the bench for the French side, as it was clear that he was not in Habib Beye's plans. Fortunately, it looks like an exit is close.

As reported by Anthony Joseph, Birmingham City are in advanced talks with Rennes over a deal for Kyogo. A transfer worth up to £10 million is being discussed by the two sides.

If Rennes are able to recover their entire transfer outlay for Kyogo after the time he has had in France, it would have to be considered a wonderful piece of transfer business for them. On the other hand, some questions would have to be raised about Celtic's team.

They let Kyogo leave in the middle of the season for the same figure. And recently, they have also agreed a €19 million deal over Nicolas Kuhn's exit.

These figures do not match the level of talent moving out. One can only hope that the situation improves as soon as possible.
