Celtic have been the best team in Scottish football by a country mile and then some for more than a decade now. As a result, often, people can actually get used to the successes. But that does not mean that they come easy. A league season is still 38 games long. Any slip-up can lead to a cup exit, as the Rangers learned at the weekend, getting knocked out of the Scottish Cup at the hands of Queen's Park.
So, the amount of focus and determination that Celtic have shown in recent years deserves a ton of credit. Even as players, it must not be easy to go after it every season when your trophy cabinet is already full.
But the likes of Callum McGregor, James Forrest and the rest continue to do that year after year. It is the case with Brendan Rodgers as well.
In his first spell at Celtic, Rodgers won all seven trophies available to him before leaving for Leicester City. And considering the circumstances surrounding his exit, making the decision to return must not have been easy for him. But he still chose to do so. If he wanted, he could have easily headed to the Saudi Pro League, as so many others have done lately.
Celtic fans won't be happy with Jamie Carragher's question
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher asked:
"Does anything get taken away from his (Rodgers’) achievements because Rangers are so bad?"
Celtic fan Quinny, who was a special guest on the show, replied:
"Not really because you see with the FA Cup games and even the result on Sunday with Rangers and Queen’s Park.
“Scottish football gets talked down and everything like that, in terms of the level. The Premier League is like the top of football in so many different ways of looking at it.
“But it’s still 11 men v 11 men. There are still referees, which we could talk about in Scotland for a full day, I suppose. There has to be context around it. But it doesn’t diminish it at all.
“The complacency is the biggest part of that you are wrestling with then and keeping everyone on the same level. Keeping the appetite."
Of course, the focus now has to be to take this to the next step. The easiest way to do that is by showing genuine progress in Europe.
We have seen that this season with Celtic making the knockout phase of the Champions League for the first time since 2013. Now, a blockbuster tie against Bayern Munich awaits them.
