For months, Celtic fans have been hearing about the impending Rangers takeover. Yet, so far, nothing solid has materialised. As the situation has dragged on, the Ibrox supporters have naturally started to get worried about the situation. And if the latest suggestion is anything to go by then there is bad news for those hoping for it to take place as soon as possible.

It is pretty clear that the Rangers have struggled to compete with Celtic. As a result, a big-money takeover seems to be their only hope of closing that gap for any considerable length of time.

So, when rumours of a takeover by an American consortium, that also owns Leeds United, emerged, it was welcomed with open arms by the Rangers supporters. It has been quite a while since then. As weeks have turned into months, many might be wondering what is exactly going on behind the scenes.

As reported by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain, they’ve already discovered things about the Rangers' operation that they weren’t expecting regarding their revenue streams. Essentially, their business plan requires regular participation in the Champions League.

This might have come as unexpected news to the American consortium, but the same cannot be said about Celtic fans or people who have been keeping an eye on Scottish football for any considerable length of time. The Ibrox club have been posting losses on a pretty consistent basis over the years.

We do not need to tell you that they have struggled to make it to the Champions League on a consistent basis. They have had some decent runs in the UEFA Europa League, but that is pretty much it when it comes to their European successes.

It remains to be seen if the takeover will end up going through or not. If it does not, it will be a major problem for the Ibrox side. As for Celtic, their focus has to be on finishing the season with a treble, which will be their sixth in nine seasons, if it does happen.
