The Kieran Tierney Celtic return rumours have picked up pace over the last few days. It looks like the Scottish left-back's time at Arsenal is set to come to an end very soon after the Premier League club did not take up the option to extend his contract by another twelve months. That means that he will become a free agent next summer although a January exit cannot be ruled out either.
Curiously, Celtic have not handed Greg Taylor an extension even though his contract is running down as well. So, is the plan to replace him with Tierney in the summer?
Of course, any move for Tierney would come with its fair share of risk. He has faced constant injury problems during his time at Arsenal, which is one of the key reasons why his time in London has not proven to be more fruitful. At one point, he was viewed as a future club captain.
That is not the only issue that the Hoops would face in any quest to complete a return though. As reported by Football Insider, Celtic face two major stumbling blocks in their pursuit of Tierney. It is believed that clubs in England and abroad are monitoring his situation too. At the same time, finances will also dictate how competitive the Scottish club are able to be in the race for his signature.
Celtic face two problems in move to sign Kieran Tierney
Tierney is a quality left-back. So, despite his injury record, it is not hard to understand why clubs around Europe might be interested in signing him, especially as a free agent.
The financial side of things cannot be ignored either. However, there have been suggestions that Tierney is willing to take a pay-cut in order to facilitate a return to Celtic.
It is not a secret that Tierney grew up supporting Celtic. And after spending more than half-a-decade at a top Premier League club, perhaps it is a return to his boyhood team that he wants. With the amount of injuries he has had to deal with over the years, one has to wonder how much football he has left in the tank.
