The transfer market is often about finding the right opportunities and it looks like Celtic are doing that early this summer. They are believed to be closing in on a move for Swedish international Benjamin Nygren. And now, it looks like they might be eyeing a bargain move for a West Ham United midfielder as well.

West Ham United are expected to back Graham Potter this summer. That could mean saying goodbye to a number of their players as well. One such player appears to be on the radar of Celtic.

As reported by Claret & Hugh, West Ham United would consider bids for midfielder Andy Irving. Celtic believe they could land the sparsely used midfielder for a bargain fee. A move to Parkhead might suit all parties at this point.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Irving for a while now. Could this be the summer when they are finally able to land the 25-year-old Scottish international? There appears to be a good chance of that happening.

It is pretty clear that things are not working out for Irving at West Ham United. Potter has now gotten the chance to have a look at him and it looks like he has not been particularly impress, judging by his game time.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Irving. Will Celtic end up making an offer to sign the midfielder?

Celtic do seem to be looking to add some athleticism and agility to their midfield. In big games, they have often struggled to control the middle of the park, which is where such matches are often won and lost. The addition of someone like Irving to Brendan Rodgers' squad could help swing the balance in their favour.
