Celtic are always one of the busier teams during summer transfer windows, both in terms of arrivals and departures. Until the club have not made any official signings, although it is believed that both Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan have agreed pre-contract deals with the Hoops. On the other hand, there have been some exits from Parkhead.
Following Scott Bain, now a striker has completed a Parkhead exit. And it is unfortunate how things turned out for him at Celtic.
As reported by Scunthorpe United's official website, Joey Dawson has returned to the club. He is their first signing of the summer.
Dawson had come through the youth ranks at Scunthorpe United and made one senior appearance for the club before joining Celtic. Now, with things not having worked out at Parkhead, he has decided to make a return to his boyhood club, despite having to take a step down the football pyramid.
Celtic exit made official as player joins English club
Dawson had looked set for big things at Celtic when he was scoring for fun at the B Team level. He even made a senior appearance for the Hoops. But unfortunately, injury derailed his career.
Of course, Scunthorpe United have been through some tough times as well. A decade-and-a-half ago, they were playing in the Championship. Now, they find themselves in the National League, the fifth division of English football, and even that comes after getting promoted.
It might be the right step for Dawson at this point in his career though. He needs to score some goals and get consistent playing time in order to rediscover his confidence.
If he can do that, he should jump up the football pyramid soon enough. Along the way, he might help Scunthorpe United do the same. We wish him the best in his new chapter.
