In the winter, Celtic were believed to be very interested in a loan move for Evan Ferguson of Brighton & Hove Albion. But, the Seagulls seemed to decide that it was best for him to stay in the Premier League and he ended up joining West Ham United on a temporary basis. One has to imagine that all three parties are regretting that decision by now.

Ferguson has not scored or assisted for West Ham United. Surely his confidence has not been boosted by this loan spell, while the Hammers have a player they no longer seem to have a role for.

Over the last five Premier League games that Ferguson has been available for, he has been left on the bench as an unused substitute thrice and brought on for a cameo appearance on two occasions. So, he can't get into a team that has spent its season hovering over the relegation zone.

It might be time for Ferguson to take a different route. And that could open up an opportunity for Celtic to make a loan move for him.

Not too long ago, Ferguson was being considered a £100 million-plus player. There is no doubt about his quality or talent. He just needs the right direction to bring his career back on track. Celtic can provide him with that.

Celtic need a third option at striker right now. Ferguson is someone who has already made 80 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion, despite being 20 years of age. So, he might be a good fit for the role.

With Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah already at the club, it would mean that Celtic would not have to go out and spend a significant transfer fee on a third option. On the other hand, for Ferguson, it could be an opportunity to score a bunch of goals, play Champions League football, win trophies and regain his confidence before taking the next step in his career. That sounds like a win-win situation in our book.
