A brace from Nicolas Kuhn and another goal from Reo Hatate was enough for Celtic to win 3-1 against RB Leipzig. Coming into the game, most Hoops supporters would have happily taken a draw but instead, Brendan Rodgers' side scripted a relatively comfortable victory. The Glasgow giants have defeated high-profile teams before at this level but rarely has it been this convincing.
Of course, the result should give Celtic a major confidence booster. In the previous match, they showed that they could get a result away from home, drawing against Atalanta away in Bergamo.
This time around, they proved that they can even get the better of Bundesliga contenders like RB Leipzig. Now, if they can maintain this, qualifying for the next phase of the competition seems very realistic.
Another side to the result is the financial one. And it is safe to say that Celtic pocketed a decent figure for winning in Europe's top competition.
How much Celtic earned for winning against RB Leipzig
As reported by The Scotsman, for each win in the Champions League during the League Phase, Celtic will be paid €2.1 million. For every draw, they will get €700,000. UEFA do not offer anything for a defeat.
Celtic have won twice and drawn one game in the Champions League this season so far. That means that they have already earned a sizeable amount, €4.9 million, after just four games in the competition.
That is more than the transfer fee they are believed to have paid to sign Kuhn from Rapid Vienna. That just goes on to show the difference that a good run in the Champions League can make for clubs like Celtic.
Hopefully, they will continue building on this momentum and pick up some more wins in their remaining games in the League Phase. On paper, they still have three winnable ones but nothing is certain at this level.
