Based on recent comments made by Brendan Rodgers, this summer transfer window is expected to be a busy one for Celtic. The club need to make additions in several areas across the pitch and will hopefully address those issues. But one position where they do seem to have enough cover is between the posts.

Kasper Schmeichel was signed in the summer as a free agent and has done a pretty good job since then, even signing a one-year extension already. Unfortunately, he got injured while representing Denmark recently but is expected to be back before the end of the season.

In the absence of Schmeichel, Viljami Sinisalo has stepped in and taken up the first-team gloves. The youngster was signed from Aston Villa in the summer and this experience could be invaluable to his development.

Despite this, the club were recently linked with another goalkeeper recently. But as reported by Football Insider, Schmeichel’s form for Celtic this season will rule the Hoops out of making an approach to sign Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United.

It is worth pointing out that Celtic have been linked with Dubravka in the past as well. But that was last summer, before they had managed to sign Schmeichel.

With Schmeichel and Sinisalo already at the club, it would not make much sense for Celtic to go out and sign Dubravka. The Slovakian is a solid goalkeeper, there is no doubt about that.

But Dubravka has a very similar profile to that of Schmeichel. An experienced option, who would not be a long-term solution for the Hoops. That is not what Celtic need at this point in time.

So, a move for Dubravka does not make sense for Celtic. So, the recent transfer update should not come as a surprise to anybody.
