Celtic earned themselves an invaluable point in the Champions League in midweek, as they got a goalless draw from Atalanta. That result means that the Hoops now have four points from their first three games in the competition's new-look first phase. That leaves them in a decent position to make it to the next round.

Celtic have three winnable games in hand, at least on paper. And they have tough contests against RB Leipzig and Aston Villa. Taking anything out of those two matches would have to be considered a bonus.

Of course, the top club competition in Europe comes with its riches. As reported by Football Insider, Celtic could bring in around £48 million if they make it through to the knockout rounds of the Champions League this season.

Celtic have been posting record revenue numbers in recent years. But even by those standards, that figure would have to be considered 'astronomical' for the club and might help them take the next step.

It is no secret that Celtic struggle to compete financially with clubs from the top five leagues around Europe. But the revenue brought in from the Champions League could at least help them get a step closer in that respect.

Of course, there is a lot of work left to be done. There are no easy games at this level. While we think they have three 'winnable' fixtures left in their first phase, they could easily end up losing all three as well.

So, you never know. It is important to take one step at a time and take every game as it comes to them. The next Champions League match for Celtic is against RB Leipzig, who are yet to pick up a point in the competition so far this season.
