Wilfried Nancy has not looked like he is anywhere near ready for the Celtic job in his first couple of weeks at Parkhead. He has taken charge of the team on four occasions and lost all four times. In the process, he has made some unwanted history. And naturally, there are calls for him to be sacked already.

Many fans have seen enough. Unfortunately for Nancy, he does not seem to have the gift of the gab either, as his comments have failed to win over the supporters and, on the contrary, have been perceived as arrogant by a large section of the fanbase.

There is already a feeling of inevitability around his future at Celtic. It feels like this will end with Nancy getting sacked. When? That is the real question here.

Earlier in the day, rumours had broken out that the club had already entered discussions about sacking Nancy. Now though, the situation has taken another turn.

Celtic confirm decision on rumoured Wilfried Nancy sacking

As reported by Peter Martin, Celtic confirm they are backing Nancy. He remains the manager of the club.

That is that then. If you were one of the fans hoping to see Nancy be shown the exit door today, that is not going to happen. But this feels like the club postponing the inevitable.

To be very honest, the situation feels unsalvageable. Nancy's failures have already cost Celtic the Scottish League Cup and allowed the Rangers to cut down the gap from nine to three points within the space of a couple of matchdays. And one can only wonder how much worse things will get from here, if the club stick with the Frenchman.

Then again, most of us always knew that the board were not going to sack Nancy this quickly. That would represent an open admission that they had gotten this appointment horribly wrong. So, they will give him every chance possible to turn this around. Let's just hope that it does not end up costing the season.
