Celtic are all about long-drawn sagas. Anybody who has followed the club for any significant length of time knows that transfers often drag out for much longer than needed when it comes to the Hoops. So, when something is wrapped up quickly or unexpectedly, it is refreshing. It looks like we might be about to witness something similar.
Celtic need to strengthen their first-team. But it looks like they are not overlooking the youth ranks either and are close to adding not one but two highly-rated youngsters to their ranks.
Of course, the news about Fulham striker Callum Osmand is well publicised by now. But at the same time, it looks like the Hoops are closing in on a move for a defender as well, and have moved in silence so far.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are on the brink of agreeing a fee to sign Isaac English. The 17-year-old defender is currently at Greenock Morton.
Celtic close to agreeing fee for defender out of nowhere
English is highly regarded and has caught the eye of Celtic scouts with his performances at youth level alone. That is because he has not played senior football yet although he has been training with Morton's first-team.
If Celtic are able to sign English, it is safe to say that he is not someone who would make an immediate impact on the first-team. Instead, he will likely play with the B Team and if he can impress at that level, it might lead to senior appearances.
Let's see what the future holds for him. One cannot overlook the fact that Celtic do not have a good record in recent times when it comes to providing a pathway to youngsters to break into the senior team. Let's hope that changes in the near future.
