For a while now, Celtic fans have been calling out for the club to sign a striker. They never really went out and replaced Kyogo Furuhashi, whose time at Rennes has been a flop. Also, with Jota out injured, there is a good chance that Daizen Maeda might need play more often on the flank, reducing Brendan Rodgers' options further.
So, signing another striker has to be a key target for Celtic this summer. And it looks like they are closing in on one, although it is not the reliable and proven goalscorer that the fans would have been hoping for.
As reported by Mark Hendry, Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Callum Osmand. A medical was booked last week and he is available for a training compensation with his deal at Fulham running out.
Osmand has been an absolute standout for Fulham at the youth level. He scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in 17 Premier League 2 appearances for the club in the 24/25 campaign.
Celtic close to signing striker with medical booked
It looks like Osmand has decided that it is time to take the next step in his career. Making a breakthrough at a Premier League club is never easy. So, he appears to have chosen Celtic as his next destination of choice.
Of course, that is an interesting decision, when you consider the problems that Celtic have faced in recent years when it comes to giving chances to their talented youngsters. How much playing time will Osmand get next season?
Is he coming in as someone who will play most of his football for the B Team? Or has he been promised a place in the first-team squad and a scope for playing time at the senior level? One would think that it is the latter considering he is leaving a Premier League club this summer.
