Celtic did not replace Kyogo in the winter. They were linked with plenty of strikers but did not end up signing any of them. Instead, Daizen Maeda has started playing in that position more often and it is hard to argue against his goalscoring record, which has been phenomenal. Even then, one would hope that the Hoops end up signing another centre-forward in the summer.
One of the players they were linked with in the winter is Evan Ferguson. He was struggling for minutes at Brighton & Hove Albion at that point in time.
As reported by the Daily Record, when Ferguson became available for a loan, Celtic's interest was real. But it soon became clear that Brighton & Hove Albion wanted to keep him closer to home in the Premier League, and he joined West Ham United instead.
That is where it starts to get interesting. Ferguson is not getting much game time at West Ham United either and perhaps he would have been better served going elsewhere.
Celtic's chances of signing Evan Ferguson boosted
Ferguson has not started a game for West Ham United. His most significant appearance has been when he was brought on at half-time as part of three changes at the break against Brentford. The Hammers still lost 1-0 at home.
If things continue in this manner, one would imagine that Ferguson would be available on loan once again in the summer. And on that occasion, Celtic might have a much better chance of signing him, thanks to his struggles at West Ham United.
Of course, there is still a few months left in the season. It is possible that Ferguson could turn things around but at the moment, that is looking quite unlikely. Let's see how things play out and whether the Hoops are handed a chance to sign him on loan in the summer.
