Celtic are in need of strengthening a number of positions this summer. One of them is defensive midfield. Earlier, we had seen the Hoops being linked with a number of defensive midfielders but now it looks like it has taken a backseat to areas in more pressing need of reinforcements. But one would imagine that it will be visited later on.
Celtic have not really gone out and tried to sign Leicester City players who thrived under the management of Brendan Rodgers during his time with the Foxes. Even though there have been plenty of such links, nothing has ever really materialised.
One of the players Celtic have been linked with quite often in previous transfer windows is Wilfried Ndidi. And this summer, he is available for a very reasonable transfer fee. So, the supposed interest might be well worth revisiting.
As reported by Rob Dorsett, Ndidi's release clause has dropped to £9 million after relegation. The Bundesliga is believed to be his most likely destination at this point.
Celtic can sign Leicester City favourite for £9m release clause
When Celtic had been linked with Ndidi previously, the major concern with the Nigerian midfielder was his fitness. He had been struggling with injuries at that point in time. It is safe to say that the situation has changed since then.
Ndidi seems to have put his injury troubles behind him. He started 28 games in the Premier League for Leicester City last season.
Let's see if Celtic do end up trying to sign Ndidi. They most likely won't, considering the club rarely pay out big transfer fees to sign players in their prime. That being said, considering the release clause he is available for, it is an idea certainly worth considering if the Hoops want to progress further in Europe.
