Celtic need to make quite a few additions this summer, as there are a number of positions in need of strengthening and depth, especially if players decide to depart over the coming weeks and months. The Hoops have been linked with several names in recent times and somewhat surprisingly, a new goalkeeper appears to be on their radar.
There have been suggestions that Scott Bain could leave this summer in search of playing time. That sounds interesting, considering he has spent so many years on the bench without a problem.
But if the rumours are accurate and Bain does leave, Celtic would need to bring in a replacement. And perhaps that signing should be made with an eye on the future as Kasper Schmeichel is not getting any younger and will probably spend just another year at Parkhead.
Amid all this, a Premier League goalie is set to become a free agent. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Joao Virginia is set to leave Everton on a free transfer as the goalkeeper won’t sign a new deal at the club. He’s ready for a new chapter as he recently signed with Gestifute as his new agency.
Celtic can sign 25-year-old Everton player for free
Virginia has always been a highly-rated goalkeeper and has been at some top clubs. He played youth football for Benfica, Arsenal and then finally, Everton. He has only made 8 senior level appearancea for the Merseyside team though.
Virginia has also spent time out on loan at Sporting CP, Reading and Cambuur. Now, 25 years of age, he seems to have decided that the time for change has come.
Signing someone like him, as he heads towards his prime, as a free agent to play the role of a third goalkeeper, could be a smart move for Celtic. But would he be satisfied with a limited position?
