Striker is one position where Celtic still could do with a few more additions. The Hoops did a decent job by bringing in Kelechi Iheanacho, even though it might not have been a popular move at the time. Yes, it would have been better to sign some of their targets instead but since that did not end up happening, the Scottish champions were at least able to get someone of quality despite the summer window coming to a close.
That being said, Iheanacho alone cannot be the answer to Celtic's problems up top. They have lost a lot of goals in recent years with players like Kyogo, Matt O'Riley, Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn leaving, with no genuine replacements being brought in.
As a result, it should not come as a surprise that the club have only managed to score eight goals in the first six league games. One can only hope that they add some more goals to the squad in January.
Some hopes have been raised though that a move for Louis Munteanu could be on in the winter. It was believed that CFR Cluj were looking for a transfer fee in the region of €20 million in the summer. But they did not end up receiving. And now, it looks like he could available for a much lower figure in January.
Celtic can sign €20m striker target for £4.3m in January
As reported by Daily Record, FCSB owner George Becali has claimed that murmurs were rippling through Romanian football that £4.3 million would now be enough to sign the player. Munteanu is still believed to be pushing for an exit.
It remains to be seen how accurate that claim turns out to be. But if it is correct, then Celtic should make their move.
Munteanu is a talented striker without a doubt. And he could add a lot to a Celtic team that does not have too many goals in the tank.
