Celtic managed to earn themselves a narrow win on Flag Day. Luke McCowan was the goalscorer, once again proving that he remains a valuable member of this team, even if he is not a regular starter. Another major talking point coming out of the game was the fitness of Kieran Tierney. He was taken off in the 65th minute and there were concerns that he had picked up an injury.
Of course, there is not much left to be said about Tierney's injury history. That is the only worrying surrounding the left-back right now. Overall, he had had a solid game before being subbed off.
There were also some Rangers fans on social media, already taking digs at Tierney picking up an injury. But judging from Brendan Rodges' comments, it looks like all the noise is about nothing at all. While coming off, it had looked to be clutching his leg but it appears that that might have been just cramp.
As reported by The Celtic Way, Rodgers said to BBC Sportound about Tierney's situation:
"He's fine, he is still gaining his fitness, Kieran.
"He hasn't played a lot of football in the last few years so we have to manage him in the games.
"I thought he was excellent."
Celtic boss drops major Kieran Tierney update amid injury fears
In his post-match interview with the media, Rodgers also went on to describe it as a 'bit of cramp'. So, Celtic fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Tierney is not injured.
That being said, this is a concern that will surround him all season. We all know about his injury-riddled seasons while at Arsenal. That is pretty much the only thing that stopped him from establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
So, one can only hope that Tierney is able to put his fitness issues behind him. For that to happen, Celtic will need to bring in a reliable cover option for him, who can play consistent minutes and take some of the pressure off his shoulders. One can only wonder what they are waiting for.
