Celtic star Auston Trusty impressed off the bench for USMNT on Wednesday night as they defeated Chile at home. Mauricio Pochettino's men are looking to kick on from a solid World Cup that saw them take a real step forward, but they only have friendly action to keep them busy for now.
Still, they took advantage of their latest friendly, defeating Chile 4-2 thanks to goals from Sebastian Berhalter, Julian Hall, Chris Richards and Mathias Albert.
Trusty came off the bench, as he usually does for the national team, entering the action in the 63rd minute, but he still managed to make a big impact, setting up the final goal, which was scored by Albert.
ESPN gave Trusty a 6 in their ratings, reasoning: "Added some composure in the back, and his knockdown set up Albert's goal.
Sports Illistrated were more generous, giving Trusty a 7.4, adding: "With two chances created and an assist, it was one of Trusty’s most productive attacking shifts with the USMNT.
GOALgave an even better rating, handing out a 8/10 and reasoning: "Swatted away a few headers as Chile pushed for an equalizer. Then got his head to the assist for Albert's late finish."
Trusty went into the international break in sticky form, like many of his Celtic teammates. In fact, his international teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers has been the better of the two so far this season, but Carter-Vickers is not in this national team group.
Injury kept him out of USMNT's World Cup campaign, and he hasn't yet been reconsidered for a spot in Pochettino's squad.
USMNT are next in action on Saturday night, when they face North American rivals Mexico in another friendly. Pochettino's men round off their international break with a date with another rival in Canada, facing the Canucks on Wednesday night.
